About Arvada
The fairly moderate climate of the city of Arvada, CO makes it a very desirable place to reside, with more than 200 days of sunshine each year and typical temps ranging from 24 degrees to 88 degrees Fahrenheit (July is the hottest month). Because of this, landscape design elements need to be able to handle extreme temperatures and relatively little moisture. Lawns in particular need to be as drought resistant as possible and able to withstand those hot, dry summers we have here in CO.
Arvada was named after the brother-in-law of the town’s founding father in 1870. Lewis Ralston, a miner from Georgia on his way to California in a wagon train, struck gold in what is currently called Ralston Creek in 1850. The 1/4 oz of gold was worth $5 back then and was the first documented discovery of gold in the Rocky Mountain area.
One more historical tidbit that helps make Arvada distinct is its nickname, “Celery Capital of the World”. Back in the early 1900’s, their “pascal celery” was served at holiday evening meals at the White House!
