History
Golden was originally named Golden City in honor of Thomas L Golden. It was a mining camp that was founded during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush in 1859. Because of its location, Golden City quickly became a hub of trade, and was the leading economic and political center in the Colorado region.
Golden lost much of its population during World War II, and that has continued on till today.
Today Golden has a population of over 18,000 and is home to more people and businesses of national and international influence than ever before, yet maintains a small-town historic identity.
