A suburb located approximately 9 miles northwest of downtown Denver, Westminster straddles both western Adams County and northeastern Jefferson County. With a population of just under 114,000 people and covering 34 square miles, it is the 8th largest city in Colorado — it is intersected by several state highways making it a very active corridor with over 3,000 businesses ranging from high tech and aerospace to medical and energy companies. Named the recipient of the International Livable Communities Award, Westminster was also noted by Money Magazine as one of the “Hottest Towns” and best places to live in the United States.

History
With the discovery of gold in the South Platte River Valley in 1858, national attention was directed toward the area that would eventually become the city of Westminster. Pioneers decided to settle here rather than continuing on to California hoping for fortune and prosperity.
The City Hall building features a 14-story bell tower with a 130-ft spire. Unveiled in 1986, the Bell Tower is known as a community landmark.

Butterfly Pavilion
A popular attraction for families that opened in 1995, the Butterfly Pavilion is a non-profit stand-alone zoo that is home to hundreds of insect species, including the popular Rosie-the-Tarantula. Hands-on interactive experiences offer visitors of all ages a unique opportunity to learn about and observe these beautiful invertebrate creatures.
In addition to the indoor exhibits, there are also outdoor gardens and nature trails to enjoy. The Pavilion is located at 6252 W. 104th Avenue.
Standley Lake Regional Park
This park is owned and operated by the City of Westminster and the lake is its largest body of water, covering over 1,000 acres of surface area. With miles of trails to explore, visitors can enjoy walking, hiking and bicycling for hours on end, as well as paddling, kayaking, fishing and camping.
For the nature lover, there are also many opportunities to spot some elusive wildlife such as bald eagles, raptors, coyotes, red foxes, mule deer and owls. Standley Lake is located at 100th Avenue and Simms Street.

The Westminster Promenade
Located off of US 36 and Church Ranch Boulevard, is an outdoor pedestrian village offering restaurants, hotels, movie theatres, an ice rink and a bowling center. The Promenade serves as an entertainment complex for the entire North Metro Denver area.
The Cherry Creek Shopping Center
Located 3.5 miles southeast of downtown Denver, is a short drive away and features a wide range of upscale specialty boutiques and stores that are exclusive to the area, including Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co. and Burberry. It also offers a variety of restaurants and an 8-screen movie theater.
