Retaining Walls for Planters
Here’s another edition to our Arvada landscaping portfolio.
This is a Windsor Stone retaining wall that was installed in a client’s backyard. This retaining wall was constructed with Windsor Stone – which are very light and relatively easy to handle.
Since the wall is small and compact with blocks that line up nearly perfectly, no mortar or glue is required to keep the wall in place.
Windsor Stone Retaining Wall Setup
The typical setup for a Windsor block retaining wall is for planters and to cordon off and beautify elevated space used by trees or shrubs. The wall is only meant to go about one to two feet high. If you need to go higher, you’ll have to use a more substantial block in your construction.
Block Types and Colors
The Stone is available in two block types – the building block itself – as well as a thinner, flatter retaining wall cap block.
Colors vary more than you might expect:
- Red
- Beige
- Oaksblend (red/grey)
For most of my installs, clients and I favor the red or beige color.
